Derby Day @ Epsom Downs

Good Afternoon everybody! @danmellett here to bring you live coverage of today's Derby meeting at Epson Downs. The Queen has arrived (wearing blue for any of the punters who have tried that one), God Save The Queen has been sung and we are all set. First race is off at 2.00pm.

Early news from the track about one of the Derby contendrs. The Dermot Weld trained Harzand has spread a plate (basically lost a shoe) which has caused an injury. The latest is he is 60/40 to compete later on.

Runners on the way to post now for the first race at Epson on Derby Day! First up is a 1mile and 2 furlong race. Poet's World is the 3/1 favourite with Ryan Moore on board. Cartago is the 2nd fav @ 9/2 for Frankie Detorri.

And thery'e off in the 2.00. Prince of Arran was slow away, Medburn Dream leads. Bathos, Catargo next.

Gawdawplin picked it up 2f out and streaked off. Rest couldn't get back. Wins well. 25/1 shocker in the first! Goodwood Zodiac 2nd. High Grounds 3rd.

There has also been a minute's applause at the Downs to remember the life of possibly the greatest sportsmen of all time, Muhammad Ali, who has died aged 74.

Next up at 2.35 is the Princess Elizabeth Stakes, ran over 1m 114 yards for fillies and mares. Sayana is a warm favourite available to back at 8/13. Oakley Girl the closest in the betting at 10/1. Could be value elsewhere in the field.

All the talk for Frankie in the Derby! Wings of Desire has the bookies terrified. Sorry Will Griggs.

2.35pm race the fillies and mares on way to post now. Sayana still the warm favourite at 8/13. Will she handle the unique undulations of the Epson track? The punters certainly think so. Are you on?

Can you back the fave at a short price? I'd prefer to look for something with a bit more value and Loaves and Fishes at 20/1 looks a nice each way play. We will know soon enough.
