The Open: Round One (6.30am-11am)

Hello everyone! My name is Joe Wright, Sctvman on Twitter, and I will be guiding you through the beginning of the British Open at Royal Troon. Coverage begins in less than 20 minutes.

It is a beautiful morning in Scotland. On the East Coast of the US, it is the middle of the night. People on the West Coast will actually see Wednesday night golf.

The first tee times are in just a few minutes. Colin Montgomerie, Marc Leishman, and Luke Donald. This is exciting!

What may be more exciting for viewers is new TV partners. In America, Golf Channel and NBC take over from ESPN. In the UK, Sky Sports takes over from the BBC. Mike Tirico, ESPN's foremost golf broadcaster, has moved to Golf Channel and NBC.

Golf Channel has never carried a major in the US. This should be very interesting to watch after getting used to other networks and their presentations of golf.

Royal Groom hasn't hosted a Open Championship since 2004. 1999's Open, with Jean Van de Velde's collapse, may have been the most memorable.

The 1999 open was held at Carnoustie not Troon

OK. Messed up but you're right.

I meant Royal Troon, not Royal Groom. But all of us make mistakes at 1:30am. Who do you think will win this event and become the Champion Golfer of the Year?

Dan Hicks opens up the coverage on the Golf Channel. What a beautiful morning.

I will be with you until 8am British time, or 3am ET. This is @Sctvman.

Johnny Miller is excited even this early. Imagine him on Sunday.
