London 2012 Opening Ceremony

Olympics

Ahhhh 2012. Wasn't that just the best summer in, like, ever?! The halcyon pre-Brexit, Trump and England being rubbish at football days. Oh wait, England were still crap then. 2/3 ain't bad. I'm Roddy Graham and this morning, 4 years to the day, I'm going to re-watch the Opening Ceremony of London 2012 all over again for the first time since July 27th 2012. Magic!

I've got the Blu Ray loaded in. I'll be pressing play at 10am. Will try and stick in as many videos into the "live" story as possible. I'm not promising I'll watch the whole athlete parade though...God, that's dull isn't it?

I think without further ado, we shall begin. *presses play* *waits for menu to fall away* AHHHH...WE'RE OFF!!

Do you remember the 60 second countdown? A very classy start it was. Huw Edwards doing the commentary on the BBC Blu Ray. Does that mean I'm going to have Trevor Nelson later too? Sakes.

The Isles of Wonder. At this point it did seem like the Ceremony was only going to be about Middle England. And as a Scot I feared it was going to be rubbish. THEN THE SEX PISTOLS CAME IN! AND I KNEW IT WOULD BE SUPERB!

The music in the opening (and most of the closing...yes, Spice Girls, I'm looking at you!) was incredible. A massive part of the success of the event. How good did the Olympic Stadium look that night too? Man I loved 2012!

Bradley and the BIG bell. Yeah, I had no idea what all this was for either.

After the bells, we had the nations choir thing where kids from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales sung a song each. With a random rugby try scored by each of them. Despite Rugby not being an Olympic sport at this time. Strange, right?

THE SCOTTISH SINGING IS THE MOST MIDDLE CLASS SCOTTISH THING YOU'VE EVER HEARD BY THE WAY!

When watching this in real time in 2012, I had no idea what Kenneth Branagh was doing. It was probably a couple of days later that I realised what it was all about.
