Swimming: Day Five Finals

Olympics

ByTheMinRio2016

Hello everyone, and brace yourselves for an American perspective on tonight's swimming from Rio. I'm not expecting any mean-mugging or finger-wagging tonight, but we live in hope.

I'm relying on the NBC stream because the network is showing beach volleyball. Matthew McConaughey is in the house for the first event of the night, the men's 200m breaststroke.

For some reason, the announcers on NBC's stream are Australian. I'm sure they'd be delighted by a win by GB's Andrew Willis.

Willis is in lane 5, next to Watanabe of Japan. The eight fastest swimmers of the year all qualified for this final.

There's a Russian dude wearing a necklace! Why shave and then do that?

And they're off. Willis lags a bit behind Koseki at the first turn, not in top 3 right now.

Koseki ahead of the WR line at 100 meters

At 150, it's Koseki, Balandin, Prenot

Balandin of Kazakhstan wins!

Balandin from lane 8! Swam his personal best and won gold.

Jody Jamieson

8th fastest qualifier. What a swim from him!
