Swimming: Michael Phelps and Jazz Carlin In Action

Olympics

ByTheMinRio2016

Evening/Morning/Afternoon everyone! @hannakin__ here, it's the penultimate evening of the swimming and there are some big medals up for grabs. Will Phelps and Ledecky get gold? Will Le Clos get his revenge? We'll find out in the next hour or so.

Here's the schedule for tonight, four gold medals up for grabs:

First up is the Women's 200m Backstroke Final. Katinka Hosszu goes in lane 4 as fastest qualifier, defending champion and world record holder Missy Franklin misses out after a pretty terrible performance at these games.

They're off and Hosszu is ahead after the first 50m, the American Dirado keeping up but Hosszu has flown ahead after a brilliant turn.

It's still Hosszu at the final turn, Dirado is still there and coming back...it's going to be close!

Dirado takes the gold!!!!! Hosszu has a horrible finish mid-stroke and Dirado completes a brilliant comeback down the final 50m.

Just .006 of a second in that. Hilary Caldwell of Canada takes the bronze.

Right then....here come the big guns. It's the Men's 100m Butterfly Final. Can Phelps get gold number 23? Or will Le Clos avenge his 200m defeat? Joseph Schooling and Lazslo Cseh could also take gold. I have no idea what will happen here.

Phelps in lane 2. Le Clos in lane 5. Schooling fastest qualifier in lane 4. Here we go.

Not a great start for Phelps, it's Schooling ahead and on world record pace at the turn...
