Boxing: Joe Joyce Fights For Gold

Olympics

I can't find Mike. I've tried looking. I'm @aidanleape. Hopefully Mike pops up shortly. But anyway, Joe Joyce is in the ring and looking for one last British Gold.

First of three rounds is a minute old and both boxers are just getting into the swing of things. It's Joyce who is coming forwards more if anything. Couple of good swinging right hooks.

Tony Yoka of France is the man challenging Joyce for this Gold and he looks hurt after this early barrage of Joyce. The Frenchman just cannot get set, and is constantly under the pump, good first round this from Joyce. Ding Ding.

Looks like Joyce's round to me. Let's see what the judges, who are the 'experts' say. I say that advisedly as an Irish fan. Anyway, Yoka has been given it on two cards, Joyce on one. Answers on a scorecard please.

The judges obviously like the jabbing of Yoka. It's quality v quantity, but I still thought Joyce had shaded it. Once again he's out of the traps quickly and swinging hard, not too much connecting though for the Brit.

Half way through Round 2 and it still is Joyce who is coming forward. Yoka staying patient, waiting his moment to jab forward. Yoka now holding on, and was hurt by a right hand to the body.

Joyce again swinging big towards the end of the round. Nothing much offered from Yoka in that round to me, bar a body shot towards the end of that round. There is the end of the Second. Surely Joyce has levelled this.

Jesus, what are these judges watching. They've all given that round to Yoka. I'm very unconvinced. Here comes the final round. Joyce will have to knock his opponent out, and even then I wouldn't back him to win.

Yoka still playing slippery bugger and jabbing well. I don't think Joyce will be able to make up this gap on the judges cards after seeing what the judges like.

Yoka goes with the Ali shuffle. Nah mate. You've been crap bar about three jabs. Looks like it'll be enough for a gold medal though. What do I know about boxing?
