NFL Week 2 Preview

Week 2 in the NFL is upon us, time then for our attempt at prognostication. A respectable 11-5 record was achieved last week, lets see what this weekend has in store.

Thursday: NY Jets (0-1) @ Buffalo (0-1) The Bills lost a defensive slugfest at Baltimore, while the Jets let a winning position slip away after a late FG lifted the Bengals to the win. Rex Ryan loves to get one over his former employers and has had his lap band removed to get back to his luckier, fatter self. You don't make the playoffs from 0-2, so it's "must win". Pick: NY Jets

Sunday (early): Baltimore (1-0) @ Cleveland (0-1) The old Browns v the current Browns. The Ravens looked unimpressive against Buffalo on offense, so a match up with the college level Browns should be what the Dr ordered. Cleveland are already onto their back up QB after Robert Griffin was placed on IR. It won't get any better for the Dawg Pound Pick: Baltimore

Tennessee (0-1) at Detroit (1-0) The Lions edged defence optional clash in Indianapolis, was Calvin Johnson not missed or was it the generosity of the Colts? On the subject of generosity, the Titans handed the win to Minnesota when both Viking TDs were defensive scores. Mariota is no Andrew Luck, so this should be more comfortable for the Lions. Pick: Detroit

Miami (0-1) @ New England (1-0) The Dolphins came surprisingly close to springing an upset in Seattle, playing a strong game on D, bit with a typical Tannehill offensive performance. We broke the golden rule last week, never pick against the Pats. It took a missed field goal to secure that win, but typical Pats, the triumphed against the odds. Pick: New England

New Orleans (0-1) @ NY Giants (1-0) Both of these sides were involved in close games last week, the Saints dropping a basketball game at home to the Raiders, whilst the Giants held off the Cowboys. The Saints appear to be involved in a bizarre experiment of playing without a defence., however, Eli will find away to make them look adequate. Expect points. Pick: NY Giants

Cincinnati (1-0) @ Pittsburgh (1-0) Steelers were the more impressive winner of these two at the weekend, rolling over the Washington team. The Bengals needed a late Field Goal to squeeze past the Jets. The Green/Dalton combination will be a sterner test of Pittsburgh's D, equally, the Bengal D will have to step too. Pick: Pittsburgh

Dallas (0-1) @ Washington (0-1) The Cowboys rookies struggled against the Giants, but kept themselves in the game. A bit more ruthlessness in the red zone would've won them the game. Washington were mauled by Pittsburgh, failing to get a ground game together and seeing Kirk Cousins throw a pair of INTs. Home advantage might be the swinger. Pick: Washington

San Francisco (1-0) @ Carolina (0-1) The Panthers have equalled last season's loss total already, but ought to have won. The highlight of the 9ers shut out win was a "streaker" who in keeping with the game, couldn't do that right. SF played on Monday, and travel cross country to face a well rested Panthers bent on getting their season underway. Pick: Carolina

Kansas City (1-0) @ Houston (1-0) The Chiefs spotted San Diego 21 points before waking up and righting the natural order, while the Brock Osweiler era in Houston got off to a solid start, the Chiefs should be a different kettle of fish, assuming it's the 2nd half side that turn up. Pick: Kansas City
