My Golf Life - Day 87 (31st March) ByTheMinute Invitational 2017 (Forest of Arden)

ByTheMinute Create A Story

Hi, I am @robertscross and welcome to Day 87 of My Golf Life 2017 I think about golf every day, without fail. Maybe not daily but hourly or even (no pun intended) “ByTheMinute” I am a golf junkie. I can’t help it. If you’ve missed any days then have a little look here

So, here we are! Forget The Masters! First we have, this Sunday the inaugural ByTheMInute Invitational 2017 being held at Forest of Arden in Birmingham

The field has been picked, and we have 8 of the finest gentlemen you've ever seen. If we could in the future, potentially make some money out of the event, we'll invite a few women :)

I've spent the last few weeks tirelessly travelling the width and breadth of deepest darkest Bedfordshire. Getting the lowdown on the players looking to win this event. Marston Moretaine, Lidlington, Westoning and Leighton Buzzard to name a few - I did also go to Luton but I would rather not comment on what happened there........

So, armed with the same questions I popped over to Essendon Country Club (they have a sauna in the men's changing room) and Hickley Golf Club too to ensure that all of the field had the annoyance of my questions..... So, we asked the usual boring stuff, but also WITB for each player, who would be their ideal four-ball and more importantly FORM !! Who is the early favourite??

They have a sauna AND a hot tub in the men's changing room. Though touching is discouraged.

We'll go a little Cilla Black here and first up its........... READIE (Andy Read) Readie is 53 years old and has been playing golf for 54. He did put 49 as his age, but being honest he's lying or has been working in aviation far too long ! A long serving member of South Beds Golf Club, where you need a flat cap and a stick to get into the clubhouse. He fits in perfectly.

Plays off a handicap of 11 - but in his swindle he plays off 5. He also told us that he was still shooting in the 30's. He's been playing a round per day for the last six weeks playing to his 5 handicap despite some seriously tough conditions.

His ideal fourball would be Lee Trevino - I wouldn't stop laughing all the way round Sir Nick Faldo - a lot more talented golfers but there's never been a better technician of the game. Jack Nicklaus - who wouldn't want to play with the greatest player ever? Me - of course. Would hope to learn from the best and have a laugh at the same time. It's what golf is all about.

Location? Old Course St. Andrews, or Augusta

Readie has not played Forest of Arden before but don't be fooled into thinking this will have any baring on him being our hot favourite. He carrys two drivers, one is a TM RBZ St 2 10.5 deg. The other is a ladies flex TM SLDR S 12 deg (in case the RBZ isn't working)
