Tour of California: Stage 2

Cycling

ByTheMinCycle

Hello folks and welcome to stage 2 of the Amgen Tour of California, I'm Chris Rolfe and I'll be taking you through the next 2 hours or so of racing

Here's today's profile, and as you can see it's a hilly stage

The climb of Mount Hamilton comes 50km from the finish so we shouldn't see a GC battle but it'll be a tough stage for the sprinters

And the map of today's stage, starting in Modesto and finishing in San Jose

We're moments away from live coverage, I know there's a 4 man break gone up the road that includes Sky man Danny van Poppel

Hopefully we won't have any motorbike issues today after the debacle in the Giro yesterday

It's actually a 6 man break now, the riders in it are Toms Skujinš, van Poppel, Chris Hamilton, Scott Thwaites, Tanner Putt and Daniel Jaramillo although I'm now seeing that Hamilton has been dropped

Hamilton is 1:35 behind the leaders with the peloton a further 2:15 back as we have 56.6km to race

Jaramillo has taken the points on the first two KOM and he takes a third set as the break crest the cat 3 San Antonio Valley Road summit, not the catchiest of names

We now have a swift short descent before we hit the HC climb of Mount Hamilton
