Hello everyone. Forget the tennis, forget the cricket, forget all these summer fads. It might only be 20 minutes since trophies were being lifted but the fitba is back!! And what a match to kick off the Scottish league season - it's the Betfred Cup and we have a humdinger of a local derby between Ayr and Kilmarnock to kick us off

I'm Alistair Sargent, and after a quick shower, change and cup of tea I'll be here to bring you my 100% neutral, entirely reasoned and balanced take on the 90 minutes ahead

Kick off in 40 minutes time at Somerset Park. Until then, here is a wee video of a previous meeting between the teams to enjoy...

This is what happened with the last kick of the ball the last time the teams met in a competitive game at Somerset Park

What about the last League Cup meeting at Somerset I hear you ask? Well, this happened that night.

Those videos should provide plenty enjoyment to the few Kilmarnock fans huddled round the prison PC looking for updates of the match. See you in half hour or so for team news and then the big kick-off

Ayr Utd looking to bounce back from a disappointing campaign last season when they were relegated from the Championship. They've returned to a full-time setup over the summer which has seen them lose 2 of their better players from last season's squad but has also seen them add to the squad well with some good, experienced signings made. As for Kilmarnock, well who cares?

A suggestion that the kick-off might be slightly delayed due to crowd congestion. Most people been trying to sneak in as many post-work pints as they can and turning up with minutes to spare.

Teams making their way on to a rain soaked pitch. Summer fitba is great. Good crowd inside Somerset making some noise.
