World Athletics Championship 2017: Day One

Dibaba wins with a quick final 200m, Semenya with a very strong final lap to take second, Judd just fading a bit in the final bend, but comfortably takes 6th for an automatic spot, brave run from the Brit.

Judd sounds over the moon with that run, a new PB for her. Went out fast but says the crowd helped keep her going. Dibaba with the fastest qualifying time, 4:02.67 Last fastest loser spot currently occupied by Serbian Amela Turzic, 4:08.55 the time to beat.

Heat #2 of the 1,500m about to get underway, huge cheer for Laura Muir, she's the British Record holder and not a bad shout for a podium finish. Dutch runner Sifan Hassan also lining up, seen by many as Dibaba's main challenger in this one.

Muir and Hassan comfortable sitting at the back over the first couple of laps. Former champion Jennifer Simpson leading things out. Ethiopian runner Tsegay takes over the lead on the third lap as Muir moves up to the front of the pack.

Final lap, Hassan working her way up the group from the back, Muir and Tsegay neck and neck in first as they come round the final bend. Hassan strong down the home straight for the win, Muir looks to have come in 3rd and looked comfortable.

British women's pole vault record holder Holly Bradshaw about to get her championships underway. She competed as Holly Bleasdale in 2012 and got engaged in the olympic village! Her qualifying group has been underway for a bit now but Bradshaw is passing the first couple of heights.

Out on track the final 1,500m heat is about to get going. Couple of Brits in this one, Sarah McDonald and Laura Weightman will both be hoping to make it through. 4:04.76 for a fastest loser berth right now.

Colombian Murial Coneo and German Konstanze Klosterhalfen at the front during the first lap, Coneo just falling away as Faith Kipyegon moves up. Klosterhalfen really stretching things out as the bell goes, Weightman in 5th and Kipyegon takes over the lead.

Comfortable win from Kipyegon, good awareness from Weightman to shut out a late challenge from Ennaoui and the Brit goes through in 4th. Bad fade from Klosterhalfen in the end but it looks like she'll hang on to an automatic spot.

I ran 1,500m in a school sports day once. It didn't go well.
