Houston Astros

Boston Red Sox

Good evening ball fans. We've had the 162 game aperatif, we've had the phony war ante pasta of the Wild Card games...it's time to get the real food on the table...hmm, ran myself down a kitchen cul-de-sac there. Anyway. The Division Series are here!!!

AL East winning Boston against West topdogs, Houston. Game 1 sees Justin Verlander take the mound for the home side, Chris Sale his opposite number here at Minute Maid Park, Houston

Verlander has made 5 starts since being traded to Houston, he's gone 5-0 with a 1.06 ERA....that is properly elite!! Sale went 17-8 with a 2.90 ERA this season for Boston, but, he's been a little off that form in the latter part of the season.

SS Xander Bogaerts will lead off for the Sox. He hit .273 over the season.

And we're underway with a strike right down the barrell

Bogaerts pops a 1-1 pitch into foul territory at 3rd base. Alex Bregman makes the play for the first out.

DH Eduardo Nunez comes up swinging and grounds to Bregman at 3rd

2 out, and Nunez has gone down in a heap on the first base line.

He came out of the batters box limping, and despite barely attempting a trot toward 1st, he's gone down. He had been struggling with a knee injury, but crucially, declared himself good to go for tonight. That may have been optimistic and calls into question the team doctors

Nunez has now been carried down into the clubhouse.
