England U17

Spain U17

HELLO!! Good afternoon one and all, Matt Verri here for the U17 World Cup Final. What a huge occasion for this delightful autumnal afternoon. England's boys take on Spain's U17 side to take home the trophy.... let's do this!

So here is how England start today, unchanged from their semi final win over Brazil earlier this week. Rhian Brewster, top scorer in the tournament so far, will be looking to find the net once again today. Hat-tricks in both the quarter final and the semi final.... anyone feeling the hat-trick hat-trick? I am. Nailed on.

Can't find the Spanish side yet. I imagine you don't particularly care. I'm kind of watching the Arsenal match too, so my attention isn't really on this match. YET. Come 15:30 I'll be all yours. Hopefully BBC will have the teams and I'll be able to copy that and look vaguely professional. Maybe.

I turn on BBC2, deciding I should probably catch up with their pre-match ramblings. What do I find? Flog It. FLOG. IT. Ten minutes before this World Cup Final. Frankly shameful behaviour from BBC. Now they're apologising about the lack of Mastermind and some random cooking show. NOBODY CARES.

Stadium looks pretty full in Kolkata, tournament taking place in the footballing powerhouse that is India. Truly atrocious rendition of God Save the Queen from the boys.... you'd have thought they would be used to the tune by now having made it to the final, but there wasn't a tuneful note to be found. At least they tried, I guess.

Spain have no such problems.... luckily for them their anthem has no words. Nothing to mess up there, with no one brave enough to whistle along.

Ah, here we go. The Spanish starting side which I was unable to provide earlier... Fernandez, Jaume, Miranda, Guillamon, Chust, Blanco, Torres, Moukhliss, Ruiz, Gomez, Gelabert. No idea about their positions or anything like that. Fingers crossed Moukhliss does nothing, because I'm already struggling with that spelling. Sancho on the bench for England.... he's good. Apparently.

Trevor Sinclair on co-commentary. Clearly the BBC have kept their best resources for the Premier League this weekend. WE'RE OFF. England in white, Spain in red. Obviously. Let's do this boys.

SHOULD HAVE SCORED!! Gibbs-White so close to giving England the lead after 50 seconds. Wonderful move, played the one-two with Brewster before firing across goal with his right foot. Keeper got down well to palm away. Great start. 0-0 (2)

Sessegnon that is woeful. Played in on the right hand side, has to fire it low across the goal but goes for a very ambitious shot towards the near post. Slices it high and wide. Spain haven't had a kick so far, England absolutely dominant. These boys free next summer? 0-0 (4)
