PDC World Championships

Evening all! Day Eight of the World Darts Championship, and the final first round matches. No shocks last night, although Bernie Smith came close against Justin Pipe. Will any seeds suffer defeat tonight? @Ugster1 with you to see what happens...

Tonight’s matches - no prelim tonight, all very straightforward - all best of five sets: Cristo Reyes v Toni Alcinas Kim Huybrechts v James Richardson Darren Webster v Devon Petersen Peter Wright v Diogo Portela

The seeds tonight are all pretty large favourites in their respective matches. Personally I’m intersted to see how Peter Wright does given his recent health issues. That’s all sorted, apparently, which is good news, but he’s lost a couple of stone and plenty of practice...

Right, first up will be Cristo Reyes v Toni Alcinas - back with that when it gets underway, probably about 7:15pm or so.

Interesting discussion on Sky re: ‘coughgate’ last night - Justin Pipe coughed as Bernie Smith was going for the win. I noticed it last night, but hasn’t realised how close he was. Wayne Mardle very unimpressed with Pipe. Judge for yourself:

To tonight’s action then, and it’s an all Spanish clash to start - Reyes v Alcinas. Players on the stage, should be underway shortly...

First Set - Reyes 1:0 Alcinas Reyes with the throw, and a straightforward hold with a two dart 52 to get off the mark.

First Set - Reyes 1:1 Alcinas Both players looking pretty comfortable pretty quickly - Alcinas hits a 177, gets a big lead, and despite a late maximum from Reyes - easy hold.

First Set - Reyes 1:2 Alcinas Alcinas looked good here - nearly hit 161 to win, just missing the bull - but then misses the 25. Reyes lets him back in though, and it’s the first break of the match.

Alcinas leads 1 set to 0 First Set - Reyes 1:3 Alcinas Three legs on the spin for Alcinas, Reyes never really in touch and that’s the first set. Neat from Alcinas.
