6th set then. MVG to throw. Begins 140. And Barney follows up with a 180. This is what we were expecting from the start.

MVG (3) 0 - 1 (2) RVB Break. What a leg!! 180 and a 170 from Barney. A 180 from MVG and a 12 dart break of throw from Barney with 91 finished on D16.

MVG (3) 1 - 1 (2) RVB Okay now they show their class. Another break, this one in 11 darts from MVG. 180 and 177 in the leg from him. Stunning darts at last.

MVG (3) 1 - 2 (2) RVB Oh this is sensational now! Break again! 121 checkout for Barney to break in 12 darts. He's throwing to level the game at 3 sets all.

These two are unloading with big score after big score now. 180s flying in left, right and centre.

MVG (3) 1 - 3 (2) RVB Hold! And the 6th set for Barney. MVGs form deserts him at the wrong moment as he is well placed but fails to find a treble in three visits, handing the initiative to Barney and he holds on. We have a level game in sets. MVG 3 - 3 RVB

MVG (3) 1 - 0 (3) RVB Break!! Barney misses a dart at D18 for a 96 checkout and MVG is waiting on 32 to punish the five time world champ.

MVG (3) 2 - 0 (3) RVB Hold. Routine from MVG. Barney just struggling in that leg and he can't get close to van Gerwen who wraps up the leg with a brilliant 108 checkout with time to spare.

MVG (3) 2 - 1 (3) RVB RVB holds. Just. van Gerwen has a dart at D18 for a 116 checkout and the set but Barney returns, needing 40 and goes round the houses before landing D5 with his last dart to stay alive.

MVG (3) 3 - 1 (3) RVB Hold and the 7th set for MVG! Leg never really in doubt as the world number one gets in control early and stays there, eventually leaving 24 and ending the job by hitting D12 with Barney back on 122. MVG 4-3 RVB. And the defending champ has the throw in set number 8 as he looks to wrap things up.
