UFC 219: Cyborg vs Holm

For now, it’s 6:10am and I’m exhausted. Have a great New Year everyone and I’ll speak to you again in 2018!

I’ve been Jody Jamieson. Keep an eye out on Thursday as we’ll be debuting a new weekly MMA column on the site. I’ll be going through 25 names to watch this week, as well as a write up on Invicta FC next week.

And with that, we close out 2017 in the UFC. Mostly a disappointing, forgettable card, but Khabib’s domination, and a solid main event gives the card something to shout about.

Joe Rogan asks the elephant in the room question. Who’s next? Cyborg name drops Megan Anderson. Unfortunately there’s a real lack of quality natural 145ers out there. I hope Megan can get her issues sorted as she deserves the shot. But for how well Holly performed in stages tonight, she’s still a bantamweight going up to fight a massive featherweight. This isn’t like Joanna Jedrzejczyk going up to flyweight to fight Nicco Montano. It’s like Joanna going up to fight Amanda Nunes at bantamweight.

Official decision. 49-46, 48-47 and 48-47. Unanimous decision.. and still champion! Cris Cyborg!

Cyborg reverses and lands a knee on the break. Really good fight. I’ve got 49-46 Cyborg.

Holly with a big left! Cyborg grabs the clinch. Holly reverses. This is quite a close round, but probably not enough even if she steals it.

45 seconds to go.

Cyborg stings her with a superman punch.

Holm lands a high kick but not a lot behind it. Holly starting to stick and move, but Cyborg landing combos.
