346 & 144-5

It's the final day of the Ashes. Can England hold out and seal a draw which keeps the series down to 3-0? Aye, probably not. Oh well, here we are.

Obviously the big news this morning is about Joe Root. He has been in hospital, severely dehydrated, with sickness and diarrhoea, and it's brought up talk over whether an extreme heat rule should be brought into cricket. The captain will be at the SCG, but unlikely to start the morning out in the middle. He is of course, 42 not out.

England will resume 93-4 in the second innings, and still need 210 runs to avoid an innings defeat. Ali will likely join Bairstow (17 not out) when we get underway, Curran, Broad, Crane and Anderson all to come

We get underway in just over 20 minutes. Should be a tad cooler today, 36c according to the BBC, cloudier as well later.

Here we go then, Moeen Ali does join Bairstow and we're seconds away from a start

Hazlewood bowling the opening over of the day. Joe Root has been spotted with his hospital tag still on and sensibly, a bottle of water. He should bat at some point. A maiden over to start, as the Barmy Army sing Jerusalem. 93-4

Nathan Lyon opening proceedings at the other end. Consistent start, Ali playing it safe and it's another maiden. 93-4

Another maiden from Hazlewood. Not an action packed first three overs. Don't think the Aussies are too happy with the shape of the ball. 93-4

Well, we've had a run. Ali with a single off Lyon to get him off the mark. Bairstow manages to turn one around legside for a single too, and a third run too to the end the over. 96-4

Shots of Root swigging some drink. Not much to report on the field, Hazlewood chalking up another maiden. 96-4
