Friday 19th January, so you'll all be in weekend mode, yes? Good, for here's a cracker to start it off: Nick Kyrgios vs Jo-Wilfied Tsonga - two enigmatic and entertaining tennis players. 17th seed vs 15th seed. A clash of tennis generations. There can only be one winner... ... us!

Before we start, a quick mention of two heroic performances last night: Kyle Edmund came through in 5 sets against Nikoloz Basilashvili and our @hannakin__ was up all night covering it - catch up with it here... https://www.bytheminute.co/events/6828

Talking of heroes, Nick Kyrgios has admitted to hero worshipping Jo-Wilf when he was a kid, talking about attending all his practice sessions 10 years ago and getting a signed tennis ball at each. Now if you've seen Kyrgios vs Fed, Nadal, Nole, etc. you'll know he's no respecter of reputations.

However, if you've seen him against Murray you'll also know that he gets a bit tied up against his heroes. The H2H between Kyrgios and Tsonga is 1 to 0 in favour of the Frenchman... ... so who knows how this going to go :-/

Who do I think will win? No idea! Who do I want to win? (that's to win the title btw)

John McEnroe being asked his opinion has stated that Kyrgios is the best tennis player he's seen in the last 10 years and that he's a clear favourite - but what does he know.

As the players are warming up the commentators are talking about Kyrgios' recently set up charity for under-privileged kids and how it's given him purpose. Anyway, Tsonga serves...

Tsonga's serving is in the groove from the off, Kyrgios not getting a decent return in and it's game to love.

Kyrgios opens with a couple of aces, followed by a couple that Tsonga can only get a racket on, but no more.

At 30-0 on Tsonga's serve we get the first rally of the match and NK shows patience, mixing up his slice and Tsonga pops it long; first point against the serve. Two more similar points and we have the first break point... ... and it's taken! 2-1
