Stipe Miocic goes into his third heavyweight title defence as the underdog. Here's a little something I wrote a few days ago about Francis Ngannou's rapid rise to this point. Check it out. https://www.bytheminute.co/events/6818-by-the-way-weekly-columns-the-rapid-rise-of-francis-ngannou-jody-jamieson-delves-into-the-career-of-francis-ngannou-as-he-rides-up-the-ranks-of-mma-live-17-jan-2018

We're live from TD Garden in Boston. No new rules tonight. I genuinely have no idea why that's taking so long. Jon Anik, Joe Rogan and Dominick Cruz have the call. Expect Rogan and Cruz to have an argument about elbows at some point. I'll also try to keep an eye on Bellator 192 from Inglewood, which is taking place simultaneously. Chael Sonnen vs. Rampage Jackson in the heavyweight grand prix, and perhaps Bellator's best title fight in it's history, as Rory McDonald challenges Douglas Lima for the welterweight title.

Islam Makhachev (14-1) vs. Gleison Tibau (32-12) Lightweight Bout Makhachev returns for the first time since UFC 208 to open up the Fight Pass Prelims. That night he decisioned Nik Lentz for his second win in a row. Tibau is off a 2 year USADA suspension, which saw his November 2015 win over Abel Trujillo overturned to a disqualification. At 34 years old, Tibau has a lot to prove, especially after the test failure.

Cruz's mic wasn't working to start the night. Hell of a start. The fighters are in the cage.

Big leg kick from Tibau, who's taken the centre. Makhachev feinting with front kicks early.

Makhachev sets it up with a right hand, pulls it back, and the left hook lands right on the button. Doesn't get much cleaner than that.
