Morning all. What a match up we have here. Angelique Kerber takes on Simona Halep for a place in the Australian Open final. It's Hannah here with live updates.

Kerber's incredible start to the year has seen her steamroll through the draw here in Melbourne, and Halep has overcome an early ankle worry to come through in similarly impressive form. The head to head between them is dead even at 4-4.

So, for a place in the Australian Open final, it's Kerber serving to get underway. Halep nets a forehand on the first point, Kerber then goes wide with a down the line forehand for 15-15. Impressive start from Halep, down the line backhand, then back to the same side, then quickly inside to pick up a short forehand for the winner. TWO BREAK POINTS HALEP.

HALEP BREAKS! A rip roaring start from the world number one, she capitalises on a weak Kerber second serve to break at the first time of asking.

Nice angle on a backhand return winner from Kerber, but a couple of good Halep serves make it 30-15. Kerber goes for the same return shot, but this time drops it just wide. Another tidy second serve out wide and Halep holds to consolidate 2-0*.

Kerber lets rip on a backhand down the line, then in for the overhead winner, which whistles over the edge of the net cord and in. 15-15. But there's another opportunity lurking for Halep here after an unforced forehand error from Kerber. Dropshot attempt, it's short. TWO BREAK POINTS HALEP.

HALEP BREAKS. A deep cross court return forces Kerber to shank it into the stands and Simona Halep is a double break up inside 10 minutes! Really, really nervy start from Kerber.

Halep's impressive start continues, good accuracy on the serve, hitting the lines well on both sides to quickly move up 40-0. Hold to love, 4-0.

Oh...and she's getting all the luck too! She's forced into a diving forehand which looks set to fall short, but it dribbles over the net for 0-15. Oh my days. Two stonking return winners from Halep, one cross court onto the line, and one leaving Kerber stranded down the line. This is incredible stuff. THREE BREAK POINTS HALEP.

Couple of errors thanks to some good defensive work from Kerber, but HALEP BREAKS. Best (and maybe the first) rally of the match sees Kerber working so so hard to keep the ball in play, but Halep eventually wears her down to force the error. The world number one is serving for the first set. We've been playing for 15 minutes.
