Halep starts off with a double fault. Oh that was a great attacking point from Halep, but she just can't quite finish it off. Her down the line forehand curves wide. 15-30. Lovely angle on an inside out forehand from Halep. 30-30. Halep in, and out wide to hit a forehand. Probably could have done more with it but it's enough to get an error from Kerber. Halep holds to 30, 2-1*

Lack of movement from Kerber on the baseline there, she sends the ball low into the net, 0-30. Halep loops a forehand long for 15-30, then chunks a return into the net for 30-30. Kerber's forehand is letting her down again. One goes long, BREAK POINT HALEP.

Saved. Serve out wide returned past the baseline. Deuce. These women are finding some brilliant angles. One from each side of the net cross court, but it's Halep's court coverage that is superior, and it brings up another BREAK POINT...

HALEP BREAKS. Astonishing tennis. Halep is absolutely leathering these tennis balls. Kerber forced into looping forehand from out wide, Halep just batting them back. The world number one has the breakthrough in the second set, 3*-1

Kerber tries the drop shot, but you've got to do better than that to beat Halep. Her court coverage is just lightning. 30-30, and a cross court return from Kerber drops into the tramlines for 40-30. Halep runs over a forehand, nets. Deuce.

Halep swings one wide, BREAK POINT KERBER. And she takes it!!! Much better from Kerber. Cross court forehands forcing Halep on the defensive, then a couple up the line to seal the deal. 3-2*, this isn't over by any means.

Halep can't get under a forehand, nets it for 15-15. Then another iffy forehand for 30-15. Cross court forehand from Kerber, skids wide, 30-30. Loopy, defensive shots from Halep with Kerber on the attack, 40-30. Ooooh, just long on a down the line forehand from Halep, Kerber holds, on serve at 3-3.

Halep quick to a looping forehand, puts the volley away for 15-0. Kerber heads wide with a backhand, 30-0, and an identical error off the same angle for 40-0. Service winner. Strong game. 40-0. Halep leads, on serve 4-3* in the second set.

Couple of misses off returns from Halep, but Kerber's second serve is causing her problems. Beauty of a down the line backhand winner from Halep, 30-40. BREAK POINT.

Saved with a cross court forehand followed up by an easy down the line winner. Deuce. But here's another! Nice disguised forehand, looked to blast it but it went short....
