Farmers Insurance Open: The Play-Off

Afternoon all! Yes, we're back to finish off coverage of the Farmers Insurance Open - we won't be defeated by a finish past 1am UK time and a play-off that may never end. @Ugster1 back with you after dreaming about what unpleasant things he might do to Jason Day, Alex Noren, JB Holmes, the PGA, Farmers, Insurance and anyone else connected with this tournament.

Ahem. To summarise where we were. The final round had not been able to separate Alex Noren, Jason Day and Ryan Palmer, who all finished at -10. So the play off started, and although we lost Palmer early, Noren and Day have now played five play off holes without being separated. Last night they ran out of light, hence we're back today...

The sun appears to be out in Southern California, so we should be OK for light for the next nine hours. Probably won't need _all_ of that time to separate them... I really shouldn't joke...

Alan Wilson

Ha ha, if JB was in the play off you'd definitely need that long.

Matt (@Ugster1)

If it goes past, say, six more holes, I'm tagging you in!

Right, we're underway, and unless my eyes deceived me, we didn't see the Day tee shot. Apparently though, he's in trouble right of the fairway, whereas Noren hit a nice drive.

Alan Wilson

I'm still backing Day.

Mike Barry

Morning chums. Im at the coalface over here. What is the order of holes did they say ?

We're up the 18th again, in case you were wondering. Day looks to be obstructed by a tree, but it'll be Noren to go first from the first cut. And he's in the drink! Ball never really got on the green, trickled back into the pond.

Makes Day's life easier - he's played a sensible shot out onto the fairway, just short of the pond, will have a straightforward pitch.

I think we can call this now - Day has hit a lovely pitch to within a few feet, and it's rolled down to be a virtual gimme. So Noren needs to sink his fourth (after the drop) to extend the match.

Alan Wilson

That was a worthy match-winning shot IMHO.

Matt (@Ugster1)

Yes, was a cracker.

Not a bad pitch from Noren, little too much on it perhaps, pitches past the flag and not really coming back. This'll all be over in a few minutes, barring a horrendous error from Day.

Mike Barry

Has got to be so frustrating for the "loser" ha. All that work to rearrange travel stuff, schedules etc to play one shitty hole.

Alan Wilson

Yeah - where we off to next week? Still California ?

And we're done! Day taps in his tiddler for birdie, and we have a winner! Jason Day win the Farmers Insurance Open! He had four birdies on the 18th just in the playoff...

Mike Barry

Thanks fellas ! Talk soon. !

Alan Wilson

Shortest BTM on record lol. Until the next time :-)

Here's the shot that essentially clinched it:
