I could probably kick that one from 10m out, and Sexton has his first points of the day. PENALTY to Ireland.

37' Slow ball for Ireland after the restart, with Jackson telling them to get a move on. Ball is cleared to Halfpenny on halfway. High Biggar box kick, and Ireland have done well to keep the ball under huge pressure from two Welsh tacklers.

39' Aki is trying to bulldoze his way over halfway, but is repelled by some determined defence. This is good defence by Wales, keeping Ireland back in their half, but then Shingler concedes a silly penalty for offside. Ireland lineout just inside the Welsh 22.

40' The Irish maul does some damage, up to 15m out from the Welsh line. Wales slowing the Irish ball down nicely, but they're still coming, up to 10m out as the clock goes red. Sexton looping wide, and they're just 1m out with a penalty advantage...

40+' Ireland are trying to bash their way over... And it's a TRY for Ireland!

Aki was taken down centimetres out and reached out for the line to send his team in for half time on a high note. CONVERTED by Sexton, and Ireland have a narrow half time lead.

A mostly high quality first half from both teams, both of whom have impressed with ball in hand. Ireland have had the lion's share of the possession, but were in danger of being behind at the break before Aki's overtime try.

Both teams have things they can be happy with from the opening half, with Wales perhaps lucky that Sexton's having an off-day with his goal kicking given their high penalty count.

Difficult to predict who's going to win at half time. I'm leaning towards Ireland, but Wales will surely see more of the ball in the second half. Won't they?

Metres made so far? Ireland - 231 Wales - 51 The lop-sided possession numbers so far will partly explain that, but that's an impressive stat by Ireland against a Wales defence that's looked well organised.
