Premier League Darts: Judgement Night

A sad, sad day in the history books. Let’s pause for a moment to think about Eric Bristow MBE, and what he’s done for the sport of darts.

Judgement Night is upon us so we’re in for an exciting encounter at the Echo Arena in Liverpool! I’ll be taking you through this evening’s action, as Wright and Suljovic will be fighting for survival in this year’s PDC Premier League.

Mensur Suljovic - a man who has thrown some healthy averages over the past few weeks but hasn’t had the results to back it up - has the difficult prospect of Michael van Gerwen this evening. Of their twelve meetings, Suljovic has won just four matches. A loss a Suljovic sees him relegated alongside Gerwyn Price.

Peter Wright has recently made two finals on the European tour, losing to Michael van Gerwen on both occasions, though his Premier League tells a slightly different story, as he has had six back-to-back winless matches. He’s only won one PL game this season, so Gurney - who has two back-to-back wins - will be no easy opponent.

If Snakebite wins tonight, Snakebite is safe, and The Gentle will join Price in relegation. Suljovic v van Gerwen is the fourth game on tonight, whilst Gurney v Wright will end the evening.

Simon Whitlock faces Gerwyn Price first this evening. Price is playing for pride and can’t avoid elimination, whilst Whitlock is flirting with the top four, and needs to keep the others pressurised if he’s going to progress to the play-offs.

Following our opener: Barney vs Smith Anderson vs Cross Suljovic vs van Gerwen Gurney vs Wright. The latter two have elimination permutations.

And the walk-ons for our first game are complete. Whitlock certainly looking the more relaxed of the pair, and will be desperate for the win to help his chances of reaching the play-offs. Price wants to end his campaign on a high, and a win will certainly achieve that. Warm up darts in progress; Paul Hinks is calling this one.

SO CLOSE! Price hits D1 when aiming at tops to check out 117. It would’ve been an early break of throw. Whitlock pinned D6 with his second dart to hold. 1-0 Whitlock.

And the first 180 of the evening goes to...The Wizard, against throw! Though two T18s by Price isn’t the worst response imaginable.

Whitlock can’t take out 142, allowing Price to check out 59, hitting D10 with his last dart. 1-1.
