A night race...

Here we are in the land of fake, a shitty little country with dubious human rights history ruled by an absolute monarchy, with a racing circuit painted on to a car-park where even the sand is painted on and the run-off areas are bigger than Cornwall. There's even a Trump Tower ffs. Why are we here?!

Because Formula 1

So what's good? Well we have a Ferrari front row (that is good), Red Bull are looking decent even though Max has a bit to do from P15 on the grid following a "power surge" mid-corner at the start of Q2, and there's Lewis sitting P9 after an average qualifying performance and a gearbox change. There's also Pierre Gasly starting P5, in the Toro Rosso, with that Honda engine. Heroic.

Pirelli are predicting the fastest route to the flag is a two stopper with the opening stint of 15 laps on supersofts followed by two of 21 laps on softs. Other strategies may be available.

Lights out in 5 mins, so let's have a couple of minutes to remember Jim Clark, the greatest of them all, who died 50 years ago yesterday...

With Ferrari at the front and Max & Lewis having their struggles we'll be seeing Valtteri Bottas & Daniel Ricciardo fighting solo battles. Gasly, KMag, Hulk, Ocon, Hamilton & Sainz complete the top 10. Soft tyres for Hamilton, quicker supersofts for the others.

The cars are on the formation lap, Lewis' pit radio having a conversation on temps. The temp is good apparently.

I have a hunch that Ricciardo could find his way to the top step tonight. You?

Lights out, go!
