Spanish GP: Practice 1

F1

ByTheMinF1

Good morning everybody and welcome to the beginning of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend and Free Practice 1 from Barcelona.

It’s the fifth round of the Championship and its a track that the teams spent 8 days of testing during the winter and its also the track that has had 28 championship races.

Upgrades galore this weekend too. Red Bull, McLaren, Williams and Ferrari have bought pretty significant upgrades this weekend. Updates to come, obviously.

Driver changes - Robert Kubica gets a run out in FP1 this weekend and will replace Sergei Sirotkin. It’s so good too see him back in the car again after his failed attempt to get a race seat for this year.

Most of the drivers have been out and round for the routine installation lap but nobody has set a time yet.

Lets have a look at some of the upgrades while we wait for the first times to be set.

Ferrari have gone particularly aggressive by mounting their wing mirrors on either side of the halo. This screams money and aero, to me. Will it work? We’ll see about that.

Here’s the new McLaren nose, too. Two extra holes at the base of the nose and two inlets, if you like, at the sides.

That Ferrari halo has got a mix of the Christmas tree and Terminator vibe to it. What are your feelings on the two upgrades I've talked about?

Meanwhile, VAN and OCO are the only drivers out on track at the moment but current World Champion and the winner in Baku, Lewis Hamilton looks like he could be heading out soon.
