25th OCTOBER 2018 A third period powerplay goal from Calle Ackered, secured a narrow 3-2 victory against the visiting Sheffield Steelers at the Spectrum on Wednesday. Sheffield opened the scoring inside five minutes when Jordan Owens netted after a goalmouth scramble. Flames hit back within 31 seconds when Jez Lundin was on hand to tip a John Dunbar pass into the net. Steelers restored their narrow advantage when Evan Janssen poked the puck past Chris Carrozzi. A close second period went the way of the Steelers who levelled after Jonathan Phillips hit a perfect high shot into the net to bring the scores level on 37:04. With Sheffield’s Ryan Martinelli sitting out a holding penalty, Flames took advantage of the one-man advantage with Jesse Craige setting up Ackered who hit a one timer into the net on 47:16. With less than two minutes remaining in the third period John Dunbar picked up a high sticking penalty. Sheffield pulled netminder Jackson Whistle for a 6 on 4 advantage, but this was soon wiped out with a Steelers penalty that ended their threat as the hosts closed out the game.
